In a recent DecodeTV article, our Solution Architect, Sergey Yarosh, delves into the significance of Multi-CDN strategies and the pivotal role of Common Media Client Data (CMCD) in optimizing content delivery.

Sergey discusses how standardizing client-side data through CMCD enables smarter traffic steering across multiple CDNs, ensuring enhanced performance and user experience. As OTT platforms continue to grow, adopting such standards becomes crucial for scalability and reliability.

“CMCD is a good way to provide analytics from the player to the CDN because of its widespread penetration. If you need to implement something quickly, and if you are focused on the web and smart TVs, it’s good because web players all support CMCD”, says Sergey. “For most devices, it will help deliver the analytics that you need.”

“CMCD is “a perfect match” with Content Steering by enabling the player to switch in-stream to a different CDN based on the analytics it gathers. The pairing works with most media players, including Apple’s player, the Video.js players widely used on the web, and Roku’s player. (One exception is the Android ExoPlayer. Setplex is working on a solution for this that it aims to deploy in the near future.)”
